Magh Mela 2026: 44-Day Fest Begins January 3; Shuttle Bus Service Launched for Devotees in Prayagraj

Prayagraj: Preparations for Magh Mela 2026 are in full swing, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directing officials to complete all major works within the next 15 days. The grand annual spiritual gathering will run from January 3 to February 15, spanning a total of 44 days. Officials briefed the Chief Minister during his visit to Prayagraj, highlighting significant progress in key infrastructure.

This year, around 4,900 institutions are expected to participate in the Mela. To ensure better crowd management and devotee convenience, a 2.8-km-long ghat is being constructed. About 60% of the land levelling work has been completed, while main routes have been marked. Construction of toilets and tent installations is progressing rapidly. Land allotment and camp setup will be completed by December 15.

Shuttle Bus Service Introduced for Easy Access

In line with the arrangements made for the Mahakumbh, Magh Mela 2026 will also feature a dedicated shuttle bus service. Devotees arriving from outside the city will be able to reach the Mela directly from four major entry points—Dhoomanganj, Naini, Jhunsi and Phaphamau. Temporary bus stands and services from Subedarganj railway station will support the increased footfall. A fleet of 75 electric buses will operate exclusively for the shuttle service.

With ongoing construction at the Civil Lines bus station, the Transport Department is planning alternative routes to ensure smooth connectivity to the Mela area. Meanwhile, the Railways has shifted the operations of several major trains from Prayagraj Junction to Subedarganj, Phaphamau and Chheoki stations.

Enhanced Power, Water and Signage Facilities

The Electricity Department will provide power connections to 75,000 camps, along with installing 25,000 LED streetlights—755 of which are already in place. Additionally, 500 hybrid solar LED streetlights are being installed, with 25 currently underway.

To support devotees, food distribution centres (bhandaras) will be set up near parking zones. More and larger direction boards will be added to help visitors navigate the vast Mela area with ease.

The Jal Nigam will install 17 tubewells, out of which two have already been set up. Ten water ATMs are planned, with three installed so far. One STP is also under construction to support sanitation needs.

QR Codes on Electric Poles for Devotee Safety

Following the Mahakumbh model, QR codes are being installed on all electric poles and RMUs across the Mela area. Scanning the code will instantly display the user’s exact location, helping anyone who loses their way. Devotees will also be able to register electricity-related complaints using the same QR code, enabling quick response by field teams.

Chief Engineer Rajesh Kumar informed that a total of 21,917 electric poles are being installed this year.

With enhanced facilities, modern technology and extensive safety measures, Magh Mela 2026 is set to offer a more organised and enriching experience to millions of devotees.
